ACTIVITIES and EVENTS
All NYC events are fun, socially-oriented activities geared toward enjoyment of sailing, socializing at the Lake, building sailing skills, and on water techniques. We participate in Regattas, Cruises and Parades. The NYC also is involved in off-water activities at the Lake such as Picnics and other social events. Specific activities in which the NYC participates include:
Races
While racing is a fun activity, the club does not sponsor it. Any sail racing is done as an individual activity.
Evening Sails
You can join other members in an informal evening sail on beautiful Lake Nockamixon. In the Autumn the sunsets are particularly colorful, the hue and tint of the many trees surrounding the lake add much to the visual pleasure of your evening sail.
Raft- Ups
While raft-ups are not planned events, they are a great way to socialize with other NYC members.
Have dinner or lunch on board while tied up side by side with other boats as you either drift down the lake or anchor in a quiet cove. There is ample time to visit other boats in the raft and enjoy discussions of the joys and perils of sailing.
Bird and Wildlife Watching
What better place than from the deck of a quiet sailboat to observe the many types of birds which inhabit the environs of the lake. There are Gray Herons, Osprey, Cormorants, Killdeer, and of course the ubiquitous Gulls, Geese and Ducks. In addition to the bird population, there are numerous deer in the park who occasionally come to the edge of the lake to have a drink.
Annual Parade
Banners fly, flags flutter and colors abound as boats show off their best "dress" while they tour the lake to the pleasure of the observers on the banks of the lake. This event is, of course, followed by a picnic.
Annual Theme Picnic or Banquet
Come enjoy a feast with friends and family. Whether a Pig Roast, Luau, Clam Bake, Hoe Down or Barbeque, there is enough food and fun to go around. This is also the time to award the trophies to all those winning participants.
Public Service Events
NYC has occasional events to help other non-profit organizations become involved in sailing as a means of demonstrating cooperation, team work and building good citizenship.
Put-in / Take-out Days
At the beginning and ending of the sailing season, members join together to assist others in launching or retrieving and rigging or unrigging their craft. Generally, someone is on hand to offer coffee and donuts or Danish.
The "Rudder"
While the "Rudder" is not an event, it is the periodic news letter of NYC with articles of interest to members and schedules of coming events.
